Thelma (Burk) Pettyjohn

Thelma (Burk) Pettyjohn, 88, of Oskaloosa, Iowa rejoined her husband, Malcolm “Buddy” Pettyjohn in Heaven on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at home surrounded by her family.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel (1904 NE Ave. Lovilia, IA  50150).  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel.  Cremation rites will follow services and burial will take place in the Marysville Cemetery at a later date.

Thelma Burk was born July 11, 1928 in Ottumwa, Iowa to George Wesley and Ruth Irene (Randall) Burk.  She grew up in Ottumwa with many brothers and sisters.  Thelma met and fell in love with Malcolm “Buddy” Pettyjohn and they were married on September 27, 1948.  Thelma and Buddy were inseparable and had a deep love and respect for each other. Through the years they lived in Marysville, Melcher, Knoxville and Attica.  She enjoyed her flower garden, vegetable garden, canning and being outside. She especially loved time with family.  Some of her favorite times were early in the morning or in the evening sitting by the fire drinking coffee with Buddy.  

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Bonnie (Richard) Ouellette of Ankeny, IA; Steve (Teresa) Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa, IA; Randy Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa, IA; and Cheryle (Jack) Hall of Pleasantville, IA; 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, sisters: Francis Macklan of Ottumwa, IA; Kaye Langebartels of Melcher Dallas, IA; Faye Starckovich of Melcher Dallas, IA and brother, Marion Burk of Augusta, ME.

In death she rejoins her husband Buddy, her parents, and many sisters and brothers.
